Can anyone recommend a fairly cheap ($100-$400) computer recording software for a home studio? I've been looking at Cakewalk products but I thought I would see if any of you had a recommendation. Thanks

I have that too.. how do you get the recording to come out with better quality??
I'm not quite sure what you mean by “better” quality. I get the same quality sound from Cakewalk Sonar X1 as I do from Mixcraft Pro Studio 5. The only things that are really going to affect sound quality are your equipment set-up, and your mixing ability.
For recording software, I would recommend Mixcraft 5. It's less expensive than some of the other DAW's, but is just as powerful in terms of a home studio set-up. The main reason I recommend Mixcraft is because of it's simplicity. I feel like it's a lot easier to accomplish basic tasks in Mixcraft than in some other audio programs which are not presented as nicely. As to how good Mixcraft is at editing audio.. if you want to send me a dry vocal and the beat it goes with, I'll mix it down for you to give you an idea of what's possible.
