I would definatly been lookin at using a soundboard instead of computer-generated shit if your budget is thathigh
with that budget, i would also reccomend investing both your time and money into making a booth, instead of a closet with a mattress in front of it and shit, dont skimp on the soundproofing, it makes a world of difference.
that'll prolly set you back 3,000 and a few hours.
i would look to spend about 500 on a mic, and another 300-500 on a backup, incase you got two people on a track.
If any of you produce, definatly get a table for mixing. I would use a computer myself to do all the mastering. I would spend about a nice 1500-200 on a mac.
That sets you back about 5grand right there, the amount of speakers and shit you wants up to you, and can definatly cost anywhere from 1-5grand depending on what you want.
Thats just my input, have anymore questions get at me: iacovacci7@yahoo.com, ill give you brands i would buy and shit, aswell as answer any other questions you may have.

also if you plan on producing, obviously going to need a keyboard, would obviously prefer a Motif.
I would reccomend on buying (there is of course other ways…) Fruityloops & Reason if you plan on producing your own beats. I only had about an 800 dollar limit for my studio, so i got a ton of used shit offa craiglist if you wanted to go that route.
like i said, get at me at via email if you want a more in-depth opinion.
what kind of set up are u familiar with… if none… start with some literature first… there are some real good books out there… that can help explain alot of what you will need and what is available…
second… start looking at what is available… you can get a good final product no matter how you make your music you just have to know what you are doing… and know what you are hearing…
3rd on a 10k budget you would looking more than likely if you are experienced at all… into pro tools hd line… maybe a digirack or equivelent and hd card… this will give you a vast opportunity to grow your studio equiptment and software… yes you do need all of those minor components or simply set your studio up around the kind of studio equipment that is industry standard… logic\protools\ect…
basically you need to do alot of research by hand in person no searching around online… talk to the people in the stores if you have questions and ideas… they know how to set up most of the products that the stores supply and they know how to set them up… there are a million different combinations to choose from brand wise…
microphone, preamp, daw, monitors, and a medium to burn or store your files is all you need to record… i recomend seperate mastering after you get the best possible mix u can what ever products you choose…
i worked at guitar center and have a degree….so here is what u need. 1st a computer( mac pro ) get it used of craigslist… then get a neumann u87 off ebay… and then a avalon 737 of ebay… that is the exact same setup outcast recorded atliens on!!!.. u also need a AD converter get a mytek 2496 or a rosseta !!! you need good monitors the best are dynamic audio or the mackie hr824 will work… you also need a digi 003 just get the rack!! you dont need the faders ….
1.. mac —-1000 used
2. mic—-maybe 1500-2000 used or a tlm103-$600
3. mic pre.—$1400
4. Ad converter–$600 used
5. protools—$800
6. monitors.. –$600
then get someplug ins and your shit is pro…
of get a mbox for $200 a rode ntk $200 and thats all do the ruff drafts at your house and go to a pro studio pay around 75$ hr and do 1 song every 3 hrs.
